Carlos A. Contreras López holds law degrees from the Pontifical Xaverian University (Bogotá, 2007) and the University of the Basque Country (San Sebastián, 2008). He authored the first Ph.D. dissertation on animal law in Spain, published as a book in 2016. He has taught Roman and Animal Law and coordinated the Master’s in Animal Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. A licensed attorney with the Barcelona Bar Association, he founded a law firm specializing in Animal Law and serves as President of the Bar’s Commission for Animal Rights. Carlos was a Visiting Fellow at the Brooks McCormick Jr. Animal Law and Policy Program at Harvard Law School and is currently a Brooks Institute Animal Law LLM Fellow. In 2022, he received the Lush Public Awareness Prize for his legal work against the Vivotecnia laboratory.
